Back in the glory days before Tony George screwed it up for everyone.

The worst pace car ever!
-
...only in Long Beach...

...In the three seconds between the time Emmo starts out and the impact, Michael has travelled 200 feet. Things happen quickly in racing.

@LIGIERJS111979 I was Emmo's pit chief then. There was no way that we could see up the curved pit lane, and when Michael came into sight, he was doing about 140 mph. Emmo was already halfway out, so all I could do was yell "Stay right! Stay right!" over the radio, but there was no room. It turned out that pit lane had been set up incorrectly, and was two feet narrower than it was supposed to be. Two feet would have been enough...

thumbs up if you lol'd at the pace car

@backlinelover andretti was braking... look at the smoke coming from his back tires... he is clearly skidding because of full braking...
Weren't there pit lane speed limits?

@VWatch07
They didn't have speed limits at the time. First time it was used was at 1992 Indianapolis. It was enforced in 93.
