Does anyone know when this was filmed?

could u lik tha blade after???

just to nitpick drawandstrike's comment. In MSR the horizontal cut is across the upper body. Going for the muscle groups and, as drawandstrike mentioned to create space. In Seitei the cut is for the eyes. Makes switching between mae and shohatto 'fun' since you have to change the blade level.

I have a plastic saya and it often bends at the Kurigata level when I'm doing noto.
-
It depends on the saya really (I used to use a hard plastic one but the newer ones are softer) and how tight your obi is.
-
Yea but the saya is so cranky that you cant really do a sayabiki like with an iaito
-
A plastic Saya is softer than a wooden one and can sometimes bend but a bokken is far easier to noto (as long as you don't get wood burns) as the Koiguchi is far larger.

MSR is Koryu ... Seitei is selection of many style (ryu) ... Mae is "mae" :-) Seitei is collection ZNKR for all. Word "Seitei" mean the "Basic" skills. MSR is a special style ... different... and old. Seitei is more younger.

a question on bokken practice for iaido....
when performing noto, how does a wooden saya feel in comparison to plastic?
what are the pros and cons of wooden saya?
-
MSR favors katana longer than the standard height-length relationship.
