If you were talking about a reasonable person and not a monster devoid of emotion and compassion for any other human being you'd be right. As far as Daniel is concerned though Eli is just a cockroach that keeps resurfacing. It is sick, you're right, it's not normal. But Plainview was in no way developed to be a normal person. He's worse than Eli, and one of his weapons is brute force and intimidation. Also, I think Daniel was still distracted with what occurred between him and HW.
