The new ocean entry from Kilauea Volcano is only two days old, but has already added a small patch of real estate to the Big Island of Hawaii. This ocean entry is about 1/2 mile from the established ocean entry near Kalapana and also 1/2 mile from the eastern boundary of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Recorded November 2, 2009

  • I just wanted to ask, Whats happened to the suburb of Royal Gardens? Is it completly gone or are there still rements?

  • About 20% of the original subdivision remains. If you go to the usgs link in the video description, then eruption update, then maps, you will see the outline of the subdivision and the remaining section on the upper left corner. This was a huge subdivision of about 1800 one-acre lots, but it only had several hundred structures. It had miles of paved roads, but no utilities. Only one house remains and the owner still lives there, resupplied mainly by chopper and occasional hikes.

  • What camera do you use to record and take pictures off all this?

  • I use a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS for both video and pictures.

  • Molto affascinante nonostante la distanza.

  • is amazing how well you capture creation on film - is almost like standing there watching----------thankYOU

  • I see the small lava finger of 2 days ago has grown very tall already. It is easy to imagine how unstable lava benches are after seeing how this piece of land has grown on top of plain sand. Thanks for uploading!
