Johnny teams up with legendary singer Margaret Whiting, for this jazzed, energetic number from a Johnny Mercer special- Too Marvelous for Words.:"Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive" is a popular song. Music by Harold Arlen, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, published in 1944. It is sung in the style of a sermon, and explains that accentuating the positive is key to happiness.(Wikipedia). Among many of Johnny Mathis' songs, in addition to beautiful, romantic and often soulful ballads, is a body of uplifting work- songs that focus on the good things in life, living to the fullest, and fanciful numbers engaging the child in us (Toyland, When You Wish Upon a Star, to name a few). Particularly in times that challenge, music like this brings out the basics -what's important in life - reminding us that we always have choice. Enjoy!

  • I'm so happy we have this video of Johnny Mathis singing with Margaret Whiting! Sadly, she died, Monday, January 10, 2011, at the age of 86. (She was 73, when she and Johnny were on this show, together, two years younger than he is, now.) She may not have been considered, "a household name, like her contemporaries Rosemary Clooney and Ella Fitzgerald," in the 1940's and '50's, but in our household growing up, starting at age 5, she was one of my favorites. She will be missed, but remembered!

  • @svnnhshirl - Thank you- and you're welcome. I heard that she passed away- She was a great singer and there are some other nice solos of her in this concert- I'm working on extracting one- hope to put it up in her memory/honor. It's a great duet .. enjoy.

  • @svnnhshirl - You might want to check the new upload tonight of Margaret Whiting- solo and with Johnny Mercer- from this same special (One More For My Baby) . Enjoy

  • Margaret Whiting is one of the great female singers of the classic pop era of the 1940s-1960s and sounds marvelous with Mathis in this 1990s duet. Wonderful, wonderful indeed.

  • @jbp60 so glad you liked it- they are great together. Really seem to appreciate each other. This was a wonderful special. enjoy!

  • I agree ReadMeRead, he is so handsome and those eyes - killer!

  • @jrmbabe4ever - first time i've used HD- brings that fabulous face and eyes right to you! enjoy!

  • Love both of these singers & it had been so long since I heard this song. I love it.

    Thanks for posting.

  • @lenoremewton - i'll add to my own post here- I love all Johnny's recordings- i'm adding that he it would also be great to have a recording of a current concert-and just as he sang those special songs on the new CD (Let it be Me- Mathis In Nashville)- the meaning really comes through- the same is true in his concerts.

  • @petertcain - ah, i was just about to answer your other post! They are wonderful together -i'm so glad you like it thank you sharing. Interesting- i heard Johnny say in a recent interview that he sings songs in concerts that he likes ('My Foolish Heart' being one) that may not get recorded- wish he would just record what he likes- my personal feeling is that this would be a fabulous time for him to record a live concert in an intimate setting- he is so absolutely terrific onstage! Enjoy:)
