I competed in the 242 raw open's men class, 24 years old. I weighed 227 pounds that day. This was my first full sanctioned meet.
Squat Attempts:
1st: 403 pounds (Success)
2nd: 425 pounds (Success)
3rd: 452 pounds (Success) 7 pound personal best!!
Personal thoughts on squat attempts: On my third attempt I wanted 450, but the weight was in kilos it was either 446 or 452, so I went with 452, 446 was just 1 pound over my old best of 445 pounds, I wanted a slightly bigger PR attempt so I went with 452. On my 452 attempt my legs were not fully locked at the beginning and did not realize until some people told me to lock my legs out more which was why it took so long for the judge to give me the command to squat because I did not start the lift with my knees entirely locked. But I powered through and got my 452 squat, and may have been good for a 460+ squat that day, it was a fight but not a difficult fight. I was very happy i went 3-3- on the squat.
Bench Press Attempts:
1st attempt: 303 pounds (Success)
2nd attempt: 325 pounds pounds (Success)
3rd attempt 342 pounds (Red lighted, lift didn't count)) I completed the lift but was red lighted for what I think was my butt coming off the bench slightly but not 100% positive. Even though I was red lighted I was at least happy I completed the lift, and consider it a 2 pound personal best gym lift, not meet lift.
Personal thoughts on bench press: The pauses felt longer then the ones I had practiced, one of the lifters told me the judge just happens to be very strict on the pauses and gives pauses that are longer then most. My 342 pound bench press was a major fight, it was by far my toughest grinder of the day, but was red lighted and did not count, but was happy I at least completed it, I would rather get red lighted for a minor technicality then failing to complete the lift. I was going to go for 347, which was close to 345 which I wanted but weight was not in kilos. But I think I made a wise choice by going with 342 because of the longer pauses in this competition.
Deadlift attempts:
1st attempt: 403 pounds (Success)
2nd attempt: 435 pounds (Success)
3rd attempt: 468 pounds (Success) 8 pound personal best
Personal thoughts on deadlifts: It was hard to decide my final deadlift, I had recently done 450 in the gym but did not go for anymore, my deadlift had even been down to 430 before I used 5/3/1 program. I decided to go all out on my third even if I failed, my all time best before this attempt was 460, I had the decision to choose 462 or 468, I wanted to try 465, but they didn't have that weight in kilos, I didn't want a 2 pound PR attempt, because it felt to small for me, I wanted at least a 5 pound personal best. So I took a major gamble and attempted 468 and got it, I may have had even more in me, the deadlift was a fight but like the squat not a huge fight.
Total: 1245 pounds
Ranking: Took fourth place in the open raw men's class, and earned a bronze medal.

You are very behind Maz, this contest was nearly a year ago, also I would prefer to keep in touch on my weightlifternerd account, since I rarely check this one anymore. I have my next usapl meet this sunday though, hoping for a 1300 raw total, 462 squat, 352 bench, 523 deadlift hopefully.

God, I would have been pissed. No matter how many times I watch it, I definitely agree with the judge who gave you the white on your 342 bench. So fucking close. Oh well, you're well beyond this now.

I am over it now, besides I at least finished the lift, and didn't get red lighted for failing, and I actually did lift my butt, I know i did, i felt it, I just hoped they wouldn't notice, although I didn't ask them why, so it was all my mistake.

A couple comments from an old PL. Your dropping a little fast on the squat. The bench looked good from the video (which is not a great angle) but don't be afraid to ask the judges why you received reds, just be polite like you want to learn. On the DL bring your stance in and your grip. You're doing a half sumo and half standard. Good luck.
