Leaders of the NYS Senate Democratic conference called for closing Upstate prisons as an alternative to modest spending cuts proposed by Gov. David paterson to help balance the state budget. Martin Connor (D-Brooklyn), the former leader of the Senate Democrats and Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan), leader of the Dems' campaign efforts to take control of the Senate. Upstate prisons employ thousands in good-paying jobs, and are dangerously understaffed as it is.
The Krueger-Connor efforts failed -- but observers were shcoked that no Democrat who represents a "prison district," including North Country Senator Darrel Aubertine, spoke in opposition to the Democrat Senators' efforts.
Ok....I changed my mind. Eff this union and close some of the prisons.

So where would we put the prisoners? The rest of our facilities are bursting at the seams as is. So...the answer? Close the facilities, pack everyone into already full and UNDERMANNED prisons.? That means to make room for them, some of the current "guests" have to be released. The dems are playing a dangerous game. More gun laws, more dirtbags on the street. Dangerous game indeed.
