  • After lots of agonizing over virtualisation options, I think virtualbox is the one i'm going to go with. One of the big factors for me is there is a FreeBSD version in the works. I'd use esxi but I want to use the machine for a desktop too. I'm running virtualbox on Opensolaris and have one account that launches straight into a fullscreen windows vm when logging in and logs out when the vm shuts down. Works from my custom X terminal too, it's almost like XDM'ing into windows.

  • All I want to know is if I can play free mmorpg games on it?

  • do you realy need to register

  • Virtual Box rules

  • remove VB 2.1, make sure to save your VMs first.

  • I had already tried that but it won't work. It opens the Package Installer and comes up with the error "Error: Conflicts with the installed package 'virtualbox-2.1'"

    any ideas?

  • no there isnt

  • Copy / Paste used to work in earlier versions, and STILL works in version 2.2.0.

I just tested it now (Vista x64 Host, Ubuntu 8.10 guest). I copied successfully both ways using Notepad++ on the Windows side, and GEdit on the Linux side. I also tested successfully with Emacs on both sides (using the *Icons in the tool bar*, M-w and C-y did NOT work).

  • just a minor correction - it is possible to clone a virtual machine from the command line:

    VBoxManage clonevdi /media/disk/VirtualBox/WinXP_Back.vdi /media/disk/VirtualBox/WXP1.vdi
