Union Pacific Steam Train 844 ~ Big Boy 4-8-4

Union Pacific 844 is a 4-8-4 steam locomotive owned by Union Pacific Railroad. It was the last steam locomotive delivered (in 1944) to Union Pacific and is unique in that it is the only steam locomotive never retired by a North American Class I railroad. 844 came through Brighton, Colorado last summer going to the Cheyenne Days.

A Big Boy is a 4-8-8-4, there are none running in the world, but many on display.

The 844 is a 4-8-4 which makes it (in Union Pacific terminology) an FEF (Four Eight Four).

A Challenger is a 4-6-6-4 and only one is left running although they ran all over the US: in the Adirondacks (D&H), to the prairies (UP), to the Rockies (D&RGW).

Actually, #844 is a Northern (4-8-4). UP's other steam locomotive they use for excursions (#3985) is a Challenger (4-6-6-4). Thanks for posting this video.
