Hannibalbarca13 had put up a rather interesting video on whether or not we should consider holding polluting and environment exploiting companies on trial for crimes against humanity because of what's happening with climate change. You can check out his video here, which I suggest you do first (also, you should sub the guy... seriously.):

Anyway, I thought he posed a question worth discussing, so here's my response to it. I will admit that I think I could have done a better job, but I was a bit rushed when I was doing this. Still, I think I got my point across. However, I don't think my words here are the ultimate point that can be made on this issue, and I won't be surprised if I got something wrong, or if I missed some points that could be brought up. So Hannibal, or anyone else who wants to respond to this, feel free. I'm always up for an education.

Oh, and here are the links I mention later:

This is where I'm posting up the story I talked about before. Read and enjoy.

That's my blog. Yes, I know it needs a better address and a better place to put it. That can be taken care as soon as I take care of my "broke" situation. :P

  • whatta quandry, to get at the heart of the current injustice system and bleed it out we have to let it run its dubious and inevitable course. that sucks! but, for the uninitiated its gotta get a whole lot worse before the truth sets in. Im both worried and hopeful for the realization of that wonderful moment. that moment where the injustice is so obvious to us ALL that the tide "will" turn in favor of forgivness and progress!

  • @Silveracity yes they happen, question are we helping start up that chain of events which reslt in the thawing out of ice ages, its not suo much are we changing the environment, but at what RATE

hunter gatherers didnt make much of a dent in some areas of the world. due to their small populations. but now we make massive impacts very quickly

butof course even if we theoretically are, we need to determine if were not indeed following what was going to happen, but mayb caused it to accelerate

  • to be abit fair to BP. we ask companies like them to do two things in regards to fucking up.

    1.. dont..

    2. if in the event you do clean up the mess you made.. they at the very least tried to do the latter. i use the word tried because while most of the oil is indeed gone, i think. they have likely caused other impacts from what they couldnt clean up in time, and dngerous substances in the dispersal agents

  • 13,000 years ago, there was ice a few miles thick on northern portions of what is now the USA. That ice melted because the climate changed, ice ages happen throughout history. But now, today, because there are corporations, you blame them for a natural event and want to take their money.

  • Climate change is natural the climate of this planets been changing for years maybe its the sun

  • Any of these people should be held liable for property damage that pollution causes. But as a "crime against humanity"? That's too damn vague and conjures horrible images that would probably lead to disproportionate punishment. Much of the US government is complicit in crimes against humanity. And yet? I mean, the wars, the laws that protect polluting firms, entry barriers, et cetera all fuck everything up severely.

  • The US is the primary cause of the problem, China is second. China can't take even 1/10 of the blame because they have 4 times the population and they have really just entered their industrial age. The history books will condemn the generation before generation X and will primarily blame the USA. And they will be correct.

  • Silver nitrate. . .

  • PS. "....will we have gotten any closer...."

  • Con't. EVERYONE, including the most innocent of us, in industrial society is guilty of global warming - not just the corporations - the next question is: "Is it really realistic or even constructive to put all the guilty on trial?" That's a whole lot of guilty, and after we lock ourselves up, we will have gotten any closer to the goal of a sustainable society?
