  • When you replaced the GFCI outlet or a 120V outlet, did you replace it while the circuit was live or the power off??

  • @cgillyard I treat all the circuits I work on as if they were live. When work with 120 volts I normally keep the circuit live because it easier to find problems. Bad connections and damages wire will spark, sizzle or crackle when worked live.

I'm a trained electrician and know how to work with live wires. You should turn the power off at the breaker and test to make sure the power is off. Safety first.

Please let me know if you have any questions

  • I had to use MS movie maker. Adobe premiere elements was making the video choppy. Does anyone out there in youtube understand why this would happen?

  • yeah the box it's screwed to would probably be well grounded so you would probably still pick up a pretty good earth reading on the enclosure.

  • I think if you are working whit energy, it is better to connect the black on the last time so you can work with the GFCI without much danger.

  • @Generation3electric yes indeed always. I'm not trained in dealing with live wires. My grandfather would sometimes work with the power on when he changed the outlets upstairs. He use to tell me to work with 1 wire at a time. I rather just turn off the power at the breaker before working on a branch circuit. Thanks for the info. CG

  • That better now bro!
