Before she was a year old, Mei-Lings birth family had given her up and she was adopted by a couple in Michigan. Growing up in the heartland, reared on ballet lessons and MTV, supported by doting parents and surrounded by friends, she was an all-American girl who never identified with her Asian roots. But after receiving a surprising phone call, Mei-Ling was suddenly thrown into an unexpected adventure with her birth family on the other side of the globe. Through this reuniting, Mei-Ling finds the strands that formed her identity as a Midwestern girl untangling. Warm and funny, tragic and touching, Mei-Lings story is one of choices and accidents, of love and loss, and of unintended consequences. Most of all, Lucky Girl is an absolutely engaging family saga proving that despite who they are and how they behave, that despite the questionable decisions they make, you cant help but love your family.
