why did the manafactures stop using the sirf star III gps chipsets as they were slightly more accurate than the qualcom chipset? These new qualcom gps chipsets take longer to get a fix when not using assisted mode.

@LieutenantRice Google Maps downloads the map images on the fly via a data connection. The built-in GPS radio doesn't cost you anything monthly for ANY phone. Neither does the A-GPS since it's just a software based triangulation of your location done with cell towers. It's not ideal, but it helps if you're not getting a good GPS signal. Lastly, any smartphone will have a pre-downloaded map solution if you don't want to pay for a data connection.

@lastwarning99 I think you have to pay for this one, but not the new Desire HD, you download maps on wifi and then use em with GPS.
