  • Sources describe this practice as if the adept is offering the flesh of his body to be cut to pieces and devoured by the gods, demonic forces etc. The ritual reminds the initiation of a shaman though the attributed meaning is different (as stated above). This particular type of meditation is believed to be extremely mentaly challenging and can be dangerous if not handled appropriately

The founder of the practice of Chöd was in The XII Century by Machig Labdrön, the consort of Padampa Sangye.

  • She is a monk first. Let's not compare her with a modern artist who runs after money and exposure.

  • @krsnapunk You are correct to a point, but it should be added that the purpose of the Chöd ritual is to cut through ego-clinging and dualistic fixation. "Chöd" (གཅོད་) means "to cut." We offer the body as a relative act of compassion, which can be utilized for healing, land-blessing, etc., but the real meaning is to cut through our self-clinging.

Also, Machig Labdron was not Padampa Sangye's consort. She received some teachings from him, but there's no evidence that they ever consorted.

  • This sends chills through the body! Lovely

  • Does anyone know if this is the suplication prayer for Dorje Phagmo?

  • I wept, centuries fell away, demons became healings...

  • RE: Cho practice (cutting free of dualistic mind) Please note: this is a very long practice, NOT a chant, so one needs the text, & transmission from a qualified lama, to safely do the practice itself, not just learn the words to chant it. However some say merely hearing the authentic Cho,as by Ani-la, and joining in the healing, is beneficial in clearing attachment and negative karma from aeons of lives if you relax & listen with a heart of compassion. Some Tibetan lamas offer healing Cho.
