My F800GS motorcycle has developed some annoying vibrations. Until I find an accelerometer or other good measurement device, I have used this method of observing water surface behavior at different RPM as a possible way of comparing different motorcycles.
In the video you should be able to observe if you pay attention, that after about 5500 RPMs, the water surface breaks and drops start "jumping" out of the bottle.
The same behavior can be observed if you look at the brake fluid reservoir. At the same RPMs, the fluid looks like if it was boiling. The same vibrations that are very annoying to ride with are the ones associated with this "boiling" behavior.

  • have you asked a mechanic? what did he say about that?

  • BMW mechanic said it is normal, but he only took a 5 minute ride. I did 600 km and my arms and hands are numb and lost sensibility. The vibrations are very annoying, it is like BUZZZ, like mosquitos trying to fly out of your skin.

  • Most mechanics disappoint me.

  • The vibrations are independent from the handlebar, present on frame, pegs, seat also.

Accelerometers will be producing numbers shortly. Please don't take it as shouting. IT IS NOT THE VIBRATION INTENSITY (amplitude?), IT IS THE FREQUENCY THAT IS ANNOYING. I can not ride for more that 20 minutes at more than 5000 RPM without feeling like my teeth are going to fall out. I will be back with the numbers.

  • prueva con una 1200 gs ya veras como se te cae la botella

  • It seems like 5500 rpm shouldn't be a sustained rpm level for most riding. I'm not sure what speed that would be in 6th, but it seems high to me.

  • ok, I've found a few videos here on youtube where some people (not speaking english) say about too many vibrations on BMW F800 GS when going over 5500 rpm..

however - they say - 5500 rpm in higher gears are more than rpm required to keep a cruising speed

  • It hasn't developed the vibrations they are all like that. I put some lead shot from a diving shop into my handlebars and this has cured a lot of the vibes :)

  • Try a Buell...
