My wife has a 2001 Passat. I don't think I'll ever have the guts to attempt this R&R, but thanks for the explanation.

Frankly, when a component that could easily need replacement is buried in this way, it makes me mad as hell. Piss pour design, IMHO... Who signs off on this kind of crap?

Thank you, it is clear and helpful, I will do that to my car VW Golf 1994. My Country (Iraq) is very hot and they remove this thermostat. Is it have side effect if it is removed. I will Return it. Regards
