Century old tradition? Well, yes and no! Actually Queen Victoria had dropped it alltogether, King Edward VII revived it, introducing many novelties and it was King George V who introduced the wearing of the crown, although he detested cerimonial and pageantry! But King George V believed it was his duty to the people and the nation to wear the crown as a sign of sovereignty and freedom of the British Nation(s)! This "tradition" is not that "traditional"! But it's the absolute right thing to do!

@SnickleFritz79 Oh so those people who are suffering will then see that everyone suffers as they do and there really is no hope for humanity?
-
For which year were the thrones rearranged? In these recent years, the Duke and the Queen sit on the identical thrones.
-
BULL SHIT...
-
Those were better days.

@SnickleFritz79 Indeed I understand exactly what you are saying. People are suffering in these times and yet we still pay for all these ceremonies, the royal wedding etc.
This is no Hollywood movie set! This is reality, it is tradition, it is the great nation that is Britain.
Long live her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second!

She doesnt deserve to? Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has won the hearts of the British people and she is on her rightful throne.
There is no need for debate on this matter, all the evidence clearly shows the overwhelming majority of people in this country support the continuation of the monarchy. All the main political parties certainly do.
Suck up the nations taxes? We spend a tiny amount on the monarchy each year, this is part of tradition and culture. We spend more on other culture.
