The U.S. Conference of Mayors is holding their annual meeting in Orlando, FL this week, where mayors from across the country are convening to share ideas and confront challenges so that they can improve the quality of life in their cities. Discussion topics are broad, but one significant theme this year is job creation and workforce development, including a panel ANGA hosted yesterday on preparing local workforces for jobs in the natural gas industry.

Participants on this panel included Mayors Mike Rawlings (Dallas, TX) and Raul Salinas (Laredo, TX), Pennsylvania College of Technology Vice President Larry Michael, and Anadarko's Manager of Government Relations Matt Carmichael. Through the panelists' experiences, conference attendees were provided real-life examples of how communities across the country are partnering with natural gas producers to train local workers for the industry. With recent studies estimating that there will be 1.5 million U.S. jobs supported by the development of unconventional gas alone by 2015, there's a lot of opportunity for continued collaboration.
