What exactly does a straight couple have to lose if gay people are allowed to be married? Other than a concept of "sanctity", I can't see anything materialistically (or symbolically) gained or lost. Proponents of Prop. 8 are just tirelessly clinging onto a wishy-washy, flaccid formality that they themselves can hardly live up to. After all, divorce rate statistics aren't exactly on their side -- so can we believe that the P8 supporters take marriage seriously themselves? Sanctity? Comical.

For those religious folk who voted no on monogamous gay marriage
They're for promiscuous gay sex?
That might explain Larry Craig's toilet tap-dancing
And not because he was missing a dime.

There is not a legitimate reason they voted yes. As I watched the recent supreme court vote for marriage equality in Iowa I was given a breath of fresh air. What heartened me the most was the incredible testimonies of state legislative members in the great state of Vermont. Vermont is far more mature than California. During the testimonies (very respectful and forthright) one legislator said "Vermont is not like California. Vermont does not govern willy nilly through referendums."

Are you serious? The "No" side was extreme? The "Yes" side's ads had factual mistruths... That's extreme.

bballer, the reason the people voted yes on 8 is because they don't want gay people to be considered equal to them under the law. It's homophobia plain and simple.

And this kind of shows what I've said before...the No argument seems to like to make this more about religious practices than I, a Yes Voter, would. LDS or not, the prop measure is the same...protecting traditional marriage.

Actually it does change it significantly because if you are an Evangelical you know better. If you are LDS the message is that you earn (through works and ordinances) your salvation within one of the degrees of glory. The more attuned to righteousness you are the more apt you are to gain Exaltation/Godhood.

Whether I'm LDS or not, it doesnt change the message does it?
Did it ever occur to you that your faith in the unknowable might be a means to excuse all sorts of wrongdoing?
"Negros were created to serve the white man, and they will continue to be obedient servents to the white man in heaven".
Stop rationalizing bigotry by claiming it is God's command. If you truly believe that having unfair laws targeting minorities is in line with Jesus' teachings, you are being dishonest.
There are no reasons for fighting equality, only excuses. Grow up already!

Imagine if the will of the people could be allowed to revoke citizen equality in America.
Women would not have the right to vote their personal and national future today. And blacks would continue to remain enslaved.
When we the people can determine other people are not equal nor entitled to be free in America, we are not a free country providing liberty and justice for all.
Instead, we're a shame who's sole purpose is to serve as an example to others. Bigotry is not American!
