  • Why is everyone saying that it's impossible to get nursing jobs but online I read that there are plenty???

  • @ilmareofthemaiar I'm not sure, but yes, there are jobs out there.

  • Hi heather was it as hard to get job as a new grad back when you left school? Right now its practically impossible, very discouraging to be honest :/ I need some advice! Should I still go into nursing school with how things are right now for new grads? I'll start august 2011.

  • @Sakura71390 Hi. It was not difficult to find a job back then. I think once the economy picks up, nurses will be high in demand again. Hospitals are trying not to pay for the costs of new grads right now, but when nurses start retiring, it will pick up. I say go for it because by the time you graduate, things will be different. Plus nursing is one of the most stable jobs regardless of the situation.=)

  • I think alot of the problem is that a lot of new grads arent willing to humble themselves to work at the less than desireable jobs. I do know that in parts of the country they simply are not hiring as some of you have said, but alot of people I have graduated with aren't willing to work in the nursing homes. I wasn't willing to at first either. I wanted to leave the state ASAP and work in a pediatric hospital, but I'm just not getting the call. I was offered a position at a nursing home. A job!

  • You're so sweet!! Thanks for giving tips and caring for new nurses. We need more wonderful nurses like you to help new grads out.... So many new nurses encounter 'season' nurses who 'eat their young.' I hear so many stories. So unfortunate!!

  • In Massachusetts there are no new grad RN med/surg jobs in hospitals ( even community hospitals). Even nurses with BSN's have problems getting that new grad job training. We are all left hanging without that "med/surg" "acute care" experience on our resume...so what do all the new grad RN's do??? We work in long term care aka "nursing homes" with all the foreign LPN's who don't speak English and where you have 22 patients, no supplies, no help, no supervision and are supposed to leave at 3:00

  • thanks for the post! :)

  • Unfortunately, the economy will not be picking up again. The govt has no solution to any of the problems and all aspects of medicine will take a huge hit when the whole bottom falls out. I also grad 5/10, BSN, 3.5 GPA. What I have learnt is that if you make even the slightest error that you will be "fired" because there are a million more behind you waiting in line who look just like you. One of my colleagues got one of the coveted hosp job & she is ready now to walk out almost in tears.

  • @aaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaa Move out of the state? out of the country? Unfortunately everything right now is slow. I didn't say higher education, I said back to school for something else if nursing isn't working out.
