The major change that happened in Persian was the adoption of a Semitic faith (Islam), the abandonment of Indo-European faiths (Zoroastrianism, Mithraism/Ancient Persian mythology) and an adoption of a great many Semitic names and cultural traits;elements of true Persian society exist and they are (ironically) one of the more liberal countries when it comes to Islam; they revere old Persian kings and heroes and generally don't dress like conservative Muslims and don't tie everything into Islam.
