This is the stretching routine I do everyday that helps keep me flexible for my skating. However it can also be used to improve flexibility, especially if you can't currently do splits - just replace the splits in these exercises with lunges and attempts to get into the splits until you get down to them :) I also find that doing stretches like this on a daily basis can be quite calming - a bit like doing yoga.
(Note: because I've been exceptionally busy I filmed this about 3 months ago, but only just got round to putting it up)

Good straddle splits! Did you get them down completely flat yet? It's hard to tell a half inch in a video... :-)) If not, have you considered trying to do moderate straddle oversplits? Since your knees are already on the ground in a regular straddle, doing oversplits would probably help speed up your progress so that it's more like what it was when you were further from the ground...

Thankyou! Yes they are flat, it is difficult to see in the vid though. I've wanted to do oversplits for the middle, but I've always been a bit perplexed as to the logisitics of getting into them - any tips?

I'm still working on mine so I can't vouch for anything directly, but others I know often do it by putting both feet up on books or blocks or something like that and then rolling the hips forward until the knees face forward and the belly button faces the ground, thus making the hips parallel to the floor. Does that make sense? Supporting your knees at the same time on a shorter object would help take some of the strain off of them, too.
