A short clip from a mind blowing performance of Glen Velez and Lori Cotler in New York City. In this excerpt they enter into an emotionally charged, yet playful konnakol conversation. It's in a 5 beat cycle, called khanda. Konnakol is a sophisticated and intricate system of singing drum rhythms, which use many different specialized syllables and phrases, called 'solkattu.' It comes from the Carnatic music tradition of South India.

  • It's wonderful wonder of great partnership, thanks for this joy

  • Oooo thanks, do you have more songs that have konnakol? or other bands?, thanks

  • I believe it's Steve Smith and Pete Lockett, both double tracked. Wonderful album--I actually transcribed that track!

  • does anybody knows who are the singers in "interwoven rhythms" (vital information), I want to listen more konnakol singers, sorry for my english.

  • shes fit

  • you are right, I was thinking about one and writing about the other Sorry for the mixup

  • Khanda refers to the jathi. the thala they (Glen Velez and Lori Cotler) are putting is called khanda jathi eka thalam.

    What you

(KV959) are referring to is Khanda Chapu thalam. to be precise khanda chapu is only 2 and a half.

  • if 5 means khanda in carnatic then i dont think you got it right. you hand gestures sure are not. khanda follows the ryhtmic pattern of 12 123 12 123

    taka takita taka takita

    hand guestures will be

    tap taptap tap taptap

  • Maravilhoso!!!
