I suspect, Joe, that feeling I recall of living in the present may well be alot to do with true mental freedom from modern civilisation, advertising, dare I say Boney M music etc. It reminds me tangentially of the 'Adbusters, Journal of Mental Health' tag line. Anotther thought - before all this civilisation we lived as hunters and hunted. Where we had to be in the moment, instinct, to live. Just like climbing maybe? So there could be an evolutionary slot to climbing. Like monkeys eh? Darwin?
