Hello all. Here's another vid. I'm playing Tank from Emerson, Lake and Palmer on electric bass. The tendency for some bassists(myself included) might be to improv over this song, maybe because Greg Lake keeps it kind of simple - F Dorian, Ab Major, 1-5-8 patterns, etc; however, if you listen to the bassline, you'll understand how the bass is the glue that holds the whole song together; Lake keeps it solid, and, as a result, the song works as an awesome piece of progressive rock. IMHO, Greg Lake was a very underrated bassist. All comments welcome. Enjoy!

  • Very good mate!

Greg Lake is quite underrated indeed - not only for his work at ELP but also for the great jog he's done with Robert Fripp at King Crimson.

  • Excellent job!

  • For 25 years I have wondered who is actually better... Greg Lake, Chris Squire, John Entwistle, Geddy Lee.... I can't do it! I give up. All I can say is they are absolutely my 4 favorites!!

  • Emerson probably composed the bass part

  • What pick up settings and amp eq did you use? By the way, nice interpretation good job.

  • @Volvo745T Yep Greg's definitely under-rated - he was probably in the shadow of Chris Squire, John Paul Jones and John Entwhistle at the time. Geddy has mentioned him as one of his inspirations. Greg's known for a lot more than just his bass playing as well - great vocals and songwriting ability

  • I like ELP's music, but never considered Greg Lake bass playing. Normally think of Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, John Entwistle, McCartney et al. Thanks for the song.

  • Now that's such a refreshing change - thanks for a great vid. Love that sound. Thanks also for stopping before the drum solo LOL

  • your bass tone is very good

  • Great playing and a great cover. Are you playing tirando instead of apoyando? Classic guitar school?

  • Impresionante !!!
