Act II. Semele's fate is sealed when Juno (Susan Bickley) inflates her ego with a magic mirror. However, this is the point where Semele (Rosemary Joshua) falls in love with her own image - 'Myself I shall adore'. This comes from the English National Opera's 1997 production.

  • She is the best!

  • Excellent!!! 5*****

  • She's definitely the most seasoned Semele EVER. I still count her performance in Aix-en-Provence the best, however. I also think her recording is pretty much the definitive edition. Here in this performance, she sounds just a tad bit less secure in G at the modern pitch. I think she might've sounded better by singing in F, instead.

  • Beautiful!

  • Gosh, she seems perfect for it to me--the best Semele I've ever seen or heard.

  • Superb!

  • And of course, Ms Joshua is stunning as always! The only version musically/vocally I've heard as charming is La Sills!

  • Thanks for posting this! The sound quality is excellent!
