Have you ever heard of a "gag order?" Chances are you have. In today's video I explain in clear-cut language what a gag order means in an accident case, wrongful death case or medical malpractice case here in the state of New York.

A gag order can happen in one of two ways. Either a judge issues an order during a well-publicized trial that prevents attorneys and the people involved in the lawsuit from talking about certain things in the case.

The idea behind such an order is not to create undue prejudice among jurors and the general public.

The other time this will arise is when the defense demands a nondisclosure agreement at the time of settlement.

Another time this gag order arises is when the defense requests a nondisclosure agreement at the time of settling your case. Watch the video to learn about the two most common ones.
