Time to put on my history teaching gloves.

See, a long time ago there was this thing called the Great Schism. It separated the now Western Catholic Church and the now Eastern Orthodox Church. The Eastern and the Western churches don't see eye to eye. Since its beginning the Catholic Church had a lot of useless idiot popes that didn't know shit and fucked all of Europe over for centuries. The bible actually supports the seperation of church and state. It tells you to support the ruling powers, since god is the ruling power in heaven and that trumps it all anyway.
