This was a piece of music that I composed for a university project, the idea was to compose music for a promotional video. The music was to use no rhythmic or harmonic patterns whatsoever and consist of only our own found and made sounds.

The video belongs to the University Of Huddersfield and is a promotional video for the Computing & Engineering department.

See what you think, Thanks.

  • Wow, your compositon is really good.

How would you interprete a piece like this without associating things ? I have to do that in order to enter a Sound school.

    greeting from berlin

  • Thank you very much! I'm not really sure to be honest, the whole point of composing for film is to associate the music to whats happening visually. If you're referring to the chains and drilling sounds then I guess the thing to do would be to establish a general mood and then go from there. Good luck for the task anyway!! I hope you manage to get into the sound school

  • what were your original acoustic sounds?

  • I'm struggling to remember now haha A few things were, a drill, sawing of a piece of wood, a metal gate slamming and a chair being dragged across the floor. There were a few other things used aswell as a few synthesised sounds.

  • thats really interesting! i am working on a vocal piece for my music tech coursework. I find it much harder to work with vocals because its a struggle to keep the meaning of the words understandable without making it sound cheesy.

  • Ye i definitely understand, i wouldn't worry about things sounding cheesy though!! Its really hard to do something different with vocals that hasn't already been done before. Like the massively overused auto tune trend haha A brilliant way of doing it is to use granular synthesis techniques, you can do a lot of really effective things with it.
