President Obama waded into the divisive debate over healthcare reform, hosting a White House summit for health care companies. Michael Cannon, of the Cato Institute, and Elizabeth Carpenter, of the New America Foundation, discuss.
prior to the 60s, health care was less than 5% of GDP, it was entirely private, and no one was dying in the streets or homeless bc they couldnt afford care. Since the implementation of Medicare/Medicaid, health care is 17% of GDP, half public funded and people are going bankrupt and not able to afford care. Govt intervention into health care has only made care more expensive for everyone.
@whothaplaya really say that to the 40,000 Americans last year who died because they could not afford medical treatment. The system is wrong, the public system should be for all paid by income taxes
@thereinliestherib My point is that America is so unhealthy, then why not get free healthcare? Increase the taxes. Intruduce an Welfare state. They want to be Capitalistic, but that is not so good when that kills.
@Farvai0 America is a commune of obese smokers. The primary reason our HC is so expensive is because Americans are the most unhealthy people on the planet, in history. What's your point?
IS it so hard to accept a free health sysyem? People die becouse they are not insured like a car, and people try to fraud the companies. Free healthcare will save lifes and stop frauding. But Americans find this "Communistic"
