The Somerset Patriots minor league baseball team based in Bridgewater, NJ held their first post-hurricane Irene home game on September 3, 2011.
In the aftermath of the Hurricane, the field and stadium were flooded up to the 4th row of seats behind home plate.
This game was free parking and admission for all central jersey residents in a way to bring the community together.
According to mycentraljersey.com article from Sept. 1, 2011:
"Called Hurricane Relief Night, the organization sees the giveaway as "our opportunity to bring some joy back to those affected by the hurricane and flooding in the area," Steve Kalafer, club owner, said in the release. "We are fortunate to be able to provide this service to those that are still dealing with the aftermath of the storm."
The American Red Cross was also there accepting donations as well as The Community FoodBank of New Jersey accepting donations of canned foods.
