Santa Claus, Christmas Trees, Gifts, Socks, And mistletoe. Every year, Christmas is the same. No Mom nor Dad to celebrate with, just me. Yup, Just me, Demetria Devonne Lovato, Demi for short.Being a daughter of a rich family is really hard, you go out for a while without your parents knowing then BAM! The whole freakin' town looks for you. Why can't I be free? free to choose what I want? The whole 'divorce' thing got to me. Mom and Dad couldn't, actually, won't see each other, even for Christmas.
I'm left at the Mansion with my Nana and my Dog, Snuggles.
I looked over at the blazing fire in the fire place, 3 days left till Christmas.
I sighed. I put my book down and got up, fixed my white sweater and straightened out my skinny jeans.
" I'm going out! " I told Nana as I grabbed my scarf and black boots.
" Where are you going, Demi? " She handed me a gray beret.
" Out for a walk." I put the beret on my head and grabbed my coat.
" Don't you think It's a bit too chilly to go outside? " She said.
" Yes but I have overlapping clothes on anyway. " I smiled at her.
" Okay, just be sure you get home safe." She smiled weakly.
" I will, Nana " I kissed her cheeks and opened the door.
The wind blew through my face as I slightly shivered because of the cold.
I stepped down and greeted one of my drivers before I let the servants open the front gate. I smiled at them before leaving.
The street was, as always, Filled with Children's laughter.
The houses were coated with decorations and the christmas lights weren't on, because it's still day time.
I walked around the neighborhood, greeted some of the people I knew and walked off to the town's park.
It was this time of year when snow is just around the corner, even if I don't wait, It'll still come.
I sat on the park bench and took out a pocket book from my coat. I looked once more at the frozen lake as children glided through them.
I smiled as I thought of my own memories on that lake, gliding, laughing, falling, and crying.
I sighed as I began to read my book.
" A Christmas Carol, eh? " I heard a manly voice behind me.
" Yes," I told him without even looking up.
" Do you like that book? " He said as he sat next to me.
" I read it every Christmas " I still wasn't looking up.
" You know," He said. " It's easier to talk to you once you look up. " He chuckled.
I looked up, my soft curls bounced on my shoulder as the cold breeze went through my hair.
" Well, aren't you a beauty? " He said.
" Excuse me? " I slammed my book closed.
" I said, you're beautiful " He smiled.
" This is awkward." I confessed.
" Why? Aren't you used to people complementing you?" He teased.
" I am, but with people I know, I believe I haven't ever seen you in this neighborhood before. " I sighed.
" Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. My Name Is Joseph, Call me 'Joe' For short." He smiled cockily and took out his hand.
" Demetria. 'Demi' for short." I shook his hand without showing any emotion.
" Nice name" He said.
" Thanks," I smiled. " Why haven't I seen you before?" I asked.
" I'm celebrating Christmas here with some of my relatives," He stood up, his dark brown hair bounced and the sun shone before him. " And I completely forgot about the groceries"
" Groceries?" I said.
" Yeah, I have to go shopping for food."
" Oh,"
" Well, See you , uhh, some time? " He smiled.
" Sure." I smiled back at him.
He blew a quite cheeky kiss and ran off like a little boy. I shook my head, he was, unintentionally, Hitting on me.
I sighed once more as I opened the book once more and read.
****
The sunshine shone as I opened my bedroom curtains, I was surprised to what I have found.
Snow.
Yes, snow, my most awaited event to come, has, came.
I opened the door to my balcony and giggled as I saw the whiteness of the streets.
I smiled as I rubbed my eyes and rang the bell.
The servant knocked on the door and put the breakfast tray on the table.
" Breakfast, my lady." She bowed.
" Thank you, Maria. You may leave." I smiled at her.
She looked up and smiled then left.
My cheeks turned red as I felt happiness,
"Winter!" I shouted down.
The drivers and gardeners looked at me and smiled.
I spun around the balcony singing and dancing happily like a little girl. Nana knocked on the door.
" Come in! " I said.
Nana opened the door and came in.
" Ah, as expected, you're up and awake, singing and dancing to the arrival of snow." She smiled.
" Yes, Nana. I'm so happy bout' it."
" My child, seeing you like this makes me think of my younger years."
" Oh, Nana. Please don't tell me another one of your stories again! " I joked.
Nana laughed as she walked towards me. " Get ready."
" Why?" I asked.
" Your parents are coming home." She told me.
