In this clip we see a Capgras' delusion patient, a condition presumably caused by impaired connections between the visual areas of the temporal lobe and the amygdala. In this case, we see the consequences of reduced emotional representation associated with visual inputs.

  • This is so damn interesting!

  • I've seen a case of this before on television between a wife and husband. It must be really heartbreaking and frustrating for the patient, and especially the family members. its like they have him back, but they don't. Some of the delusions in some cases, are more angry and confrontational than the one shown in this clip, as well.

  • Well explained! I like that doctor

  • The doctor explained it so well!

  • @stopputtingLoL if it doesn't work in general there's no reason to think it is correct, derp.

  • always wear your seatbelt.

  • i had capgras when i was psychotic and not receiving anti psychotics yet. That shit sucks. I thought the evil versions of people could read my mind and they were plotting to kill me.

  • Freudian explanation works with this mother...

  • i would have sooo much fun with this guy

  • @0NoName9 Every Freudian explanation has to involve a penis and a vagina. You should read Eysenck's 'sense and nonsense in psychology' or any of the other penguin classics by Eysenck - he has a few digs at Freud's theories and how ridiculous some of them are.

  • I'm studying Capgras' syndrome and a lot of other really interesting cases. If you are interested in this you should read Oliver Sack's 'The man who mistook his wife for a hat' as well as his other books.

  • It has been on the show Criminal Minds, episode 151.
