  • I still contest to this day that the most unbreakable record is sports is Bobby Orr's +/- in 70-71. He was an unbelievable +124. Sure, its kind of a junk stat, and sure, it was more or less popularized to SHOW people how good Bobby Orr was (it was officially adopted and tracked by the league in Orr's second NHL season), but the only player to even come close was Gretzky, and he didn't break 100.

  • I agree. That statistic is incredible. In fact, Orr's +/- for his entire career is off the charts compared to everyone else. Another thing: Orr was the number one "shutdown" defenseman on the Bruins, always out against the top offensive threats. When Gretzky put up good +/- stats in Edmonton, they used mostly Messier and MacTavish for that role. Even on his own line, Kurri was the backchecker. When Gretzky went to the Kings, his +/- stats went down the toilet. Seven times he was BELOW ZERO.

  • Again, I know it's never going to be recognized by anybody as a major statistic or record just because of the situational nature of +/-. But as far as stats go for indicating a player's dominance in his sport, that number tells a huge story. When Orr was on the ice, the other team did not score, and the Bruins usually did (and it was probably Bobby).

And you're absolutely right. Orr was a defensive monster. He made opposing forwards look stupid, hit like a truck AND FOUGHT.

  • I just noticed all the comments on this video. To clarify, I'm from and currently live in Pittsburgh. I'm a die hard Penguins and Lemieux fan.

I still posted this video and I still say Bobby Orr is probably the best there ever was.

  • THE GREATEST HOCKEY PLAYER EVER.

  • People that want to compare Orr to Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, or Ovechkin, need to watch more hockey. Put it this way. Stick any of those 4 on a pond w. Orr; tell me any of em would have stood a chance. That's right. Nobody beat Orr 1-on-1.

  • If orr played center or even wing he would have been the great one instead of gretzky. Or if his knees didnt suck. More talent than wayne no doubt. Wayne has the stats tho

  • I'd like to see 1976 Canada Cup team vs. 2010 Olympic team.

  • whats the name of the song

  • My grandpa used to play with booby

  • I played golf with him in 2002. Hows that for bragging? Good going the cards.

  • 0:20 I was at that game. He was the best. #4 Bobby Orr the best to ever play the game.

  • Not to brag, but I've got every Bobby Orr hockey card from 1971 and after.

  • man o man the deck at 00:7 secs is amazing! this guy would hve surpassed gretzky if his knees werent so bad

  • You had to be there.

Close your eyes and imagine a MLB Pitcher {30 game winner}-- winning the Triple Crown for batting .

If you can do that---you have a sampling of what we got to witness. There has been nothing like him since. Considering the incredible talent pool of players year in and year out---that's quite a statement..

Fastest skater..hardest shot...crushing body checks..great playmaker..blocked shots...superb stickhandler. If I left something out, he did that too.
