From the DVD "Live on Soundstage 1980," John Prine plays "How Lucky" with John Burns.

This is a terrific DVD if you are a John Prine fan.

  • try being 45.........I's lucky to.......

  • @jonnysebastianvandel Try being 51. I plan on living forever. So far, so good. How lucky can one man get?

  • i first heard john when i was14. my dad's buddy who drinks alot left prime prine in the cassette deck of his boat radio which was unfloatable, and it played over and over for at least 24 hours. i think the fire went out before the tape came out. i was hooked and the music i learned on the acoustic and the records i bought from there on reflect to this day the greatness that isprine. i'm from southern ohio and met a girl from detroit. when i met her dad i found he was a big prine fan.good family

  • "Prime Prine" was a great way of introducing yourself to his music! I learned to play guitar by listening to his records and in recent years tried to thank him for that, but I don't think my message ever actually reached him.

  • There is something about this guy we just have to like him. Great.

  • So true. A buddy of mine, a die-hard Stones and AC/DC fan, listened to a Prine CD I'd burned for him a number of years ago, and has since become a huge John Prine fan.

  • thanks for finding this classic vid!

  • When I'd play one of his songs (espec. Sam Stone or (surprise) Christmas In Prison, some one person would always say, "who is that??". That must have happened so many times across the usa and the world since. What a great legacy and an eternal gift. God Bless John Prine (and Steve Goodman, and Johnny Cash, RIP.)

  • @jordanthecat Same here. I found John Prine fall of '73 and it was a perfect fit. I had been playing guitar a while but not musically talented. Then John Prine revealed what I had been missing. His music, his words, his heart. Dylan (called him the best songwriter on the scene) and Prine were all I ever needed.

  • @olhippie1 Hate to bust yer bubble olhippie that's not Steve Goodman pickin with John

  • I've watched this a million times. Sitting in the backyard of your boyhood home with a good friend, drinking a few beers and playing some good music. How lucky can one man get?

  • @pamidawasmyname

It is on the album called Pink Cadillac. Kind of of a rockabilly album released in 79 I think.

  • Does anyone know what record this is from? I've been walking around singing it for a week.

  • @tom0734 Hey, you know there's one in every crowd. But it sure wasn't me!!

  • one dislike...wtf who in the hell??
