@jlbarber54 You are right there. However the problem is that the free market does not adjust for the ecological damage. If there was a polution tax for creating energy out of coal/oil, solar energy sure would have a easier time and won't need subsidy.
@mo1elftausend I think the government should quit picking the winners in the energy debate and let a free market decide. When I say pick winners, what I mean is quit picking the companies that line their pockets with cash. The little guy loses with the government intervention. Legalize free competition; regulations prevent alternative energy sources from competing unless the name is BP, Exxon, and Mobil…
@mo1elftausend LoL REALLY?? So according to you, the U.S went there, spent 1 trillion to simply lower the oil prices.. That's fucking ridiculous to think honestly. Second, the government is the BIGGEST investor in solar energy. Which means that they have somewhat of a monopoly over it. The reason of their investment is that they find it good for the environment. But at the long run it's a waste of resources with not much in return. Thus the reason why big companies don't invest in solar energy.
@juanmisimo wow you fail completly. 1) It doesn't even matter where the oil from Iraq goes as long as it goes to the world market it keeps oil prices down. BTW many people argue Saddam's decision to change Oil Exports to Euro is what caused the invasion. 2) Solar Energy Subsidies lead to more private Investment into Solar Energy.
@mo1elftausend Firstoff, the U.S doesn't get any of the oil from Iraq, research a little bit more. That was not the reason the U.S went there in the first place. Second, Obama invested like 2 billion on Solar Energy. Which is quite retarded, because it's the government subsidizing and trying to get a monopoly of that kind of energy, but at the long run it's not worth it. That's why there isn't a big investment on that kind of energy from companies.

Example, liquid hydrogen has been stifled for 30 years but now that the big boys are in the hydrogen business it now becomes a suitable source.
