This new bus for London is my response to the design competition proposed by Boris Johnson. Unfortunately I wasnt selected for a prize, even though I wanted to share my design.
This new bus for 2012 is a retro design inspired by regent 3RT. To match the specifications of the present, the engine which was well known to be at the front has been moved to the back. This sits vertically under the stairs. Because of this it contributes big opportunity to change the front, as it creates more space. Rear display panel integrated into arch shaped rear open access which gives unique character. To enhance the view from the top deck, the back window flows cleanly all the way down the bus. With having the exciting views it also can be used as an emergency exit.
Many aspects of the bus echo the 3RT, instead of basing the design on the Route master. I believe that the 3RT was the bus that started the love story between the Routemaster with Londoners. My intention is to bring back this memory to the present and for the future.

  • This in my opinion looks miles better than the current winners by Capaco and Aston Martin/forster partners, I think they look a bit wierd.

  • One of the most important aspects of the proper Routemaster was its accessibility for maintenance. This modern thing will be as useless in this respect as any other modern bus.

Lol if you like aircraft it says:

    757 to Luton Airport

Hehe its a Boeing 757 xD

  • Awesome design!

  • I think its a really good design. Well done

  • @ProSneakyD .. except its far too wide for cars to overta\ke on London streets when they stop, just like the present big red clots beasting about. The old Routemaster's slimline narrow breadth kept traffic flowing by allowing room for other vehicles to overtake at stops.

But you can probably reconcile yourself that the winning designers have probably made the same mistake.

    Genius seems never-ending these days..

  • I like this a lot.

  • What a shame it didn't win! I like it much more than the spaceship that they chose. Really a fantastic design, like someone mentioned a modern classic, true to the original Routemaster. Anyway... hwaiting!

  • The winning design is completely uninspired. I wonder sometimes if the politicians aren't deliberately creating an ugly environment to make us all permanently depressed.

Ji Hun Lee's bus I really like. Only the interior needs changing - all buses today have terrible interiors.

  • @ProSneakyD, cronyism probably ensured who the winners would be. Were the public involved in the decision? The public should have decided! This country is becoming more like China every day.

  • I've been really critical of the new designs. But yours is not bad at all. The back is nice - that long, narrow glass window spanning both decks - a nice, original feature! It's a much warmer design.

This is why you didn't win - it was actually a good design!

The interior, sadly, is as bad as ever. I couldn't fail to notice the CCTV monitor, escorting us high-security prisoners from one penitentiary to another.

It's the inside that matters most, as that's what passengers experience the most.

  • Free God Shame it didnt win!!
