Cacti and succulents are not difficult to grow if you keep their basic requirements in mind. First and foremost, cacti require excellent drainage. Secondly, they like alkaline, mineral soils. The adaptability of cacti and succulents to heat, intense sunshine and their ability to thrive with little water or maintenance under dry conditions make them an excellent choice for xeric gardens. Agave, yucca, delosperma (ice plants), Kniphofia, and sedum are a few of the High Country Gardens favorites for planting in a xeriscape garden.
