Zen Service in Japan: Eiheiji Temple

Video of my recent trip to Eiheiji Temple in Fukui Prefecture, Japan. This has been an active Soto Zen temple since its founding in 1244 A.D. by Dogen zenji. The service that takes place in this video is a memorial for the dead.

I go to Temple Eihei by the travel on a near day. I think that the tourist from countries various due to the earthquake is few. I want everybody to come by all means. There are a lot of hot springs of the Fukui area with this temple, too.

The Buddha never taught ritual. This is a result of Confucianism's impact on Buddhism in China which was strongly oriented to ritualism. Ritual is the way to destroy Buddhism: chanting mindlessly and just sitting.
