In an Al Jazeera English web exclusive, Riz Khan talks to speed skater Joey Cheek, whose visa was revoked by Chinese authorities hours before he was to travel to participate in the Olympic games, because of an organisation, Team Darfur, he co-founded with other global athletes to draw attention to the crisis in Darfur.

  • Joey Cheek is the man!

  • China has right to refuse visa to anyone for godsakes it's actually harder to enter the USA as a foreigner than a China today!

  • China has NEVER been honest. They have to get a young innocent girl to lip-sync, when the actual singer was not allowed to be on stage just because she was less 'pretty'. The Fireworks on TV were digitalised and included from pre-recorded shots.

China betrayed the IOC and the World in backtracking on their promises - press freedom; pollution control (still worse than expected levels); persecution of its people. They say China is 'COMING OF AGE'.

This itself is an insult to China !

  • Why don't you list the actrocities committed by the "Champion of Democracy" aka the U.S.A. That would be a much more impressive one in a much shorter period of time. You consistently and allegedly lamented that those "atrocities" were documented, then why don't you show us? "East Turkistan" is a name given by the british agitators aiming to partition China in the early 20th century, "Xinjiang" is its name.

  • The main point I tried to make with the West example of Rwanda is to give developing countries more breathing room. I support the West's stance on Sudan but they need to realize that in the past they have done similar things and should work optimisticly with countries to solve internal or international affairs instead of just criticizing and embarrassing developing countries after all, they are 'developing'.

  • I'm not opposing the West - I actually live in the West and also grew up here. And not every Teen is stupid. What I really think is stupid is people not understanding that all countries (including the USA) are all involved in realpolitik, China or Russia or the US don't do things intending to harm the people of other countries but do it because its in their interests to do things that somewhat indirectly harm those people.

  • And you know what, I'm getting really tired overall of YouTube debates when the vast majority here are already under 20. Almost every story about China becomes "but the west is just as bad" "the west is just as hypocritical, you have no right to point fingers" "leave chinese matters to china" etc. It's not just China too, because I would go crazy if I listened to only that all the time. Here's a new rule, if you are under 20, you don't deserve my time. Because teens are idiots, I was one too.

  • No, but this is UN's job, this is not the job of the west, or the east, or China, or Africa or Antartica. This international crisis is exactly what the UN and the UN peace keepers were made for, and China uses its power to block any pressures against Sudan, because they buy oil from Sudan. Leave "the west" out of this. I never spoke among my friends or heard the "west vs east" so often as in the last 3 years. Stop this stupid hate.

  • opps I accidentally pressed ctrl v and put ["Human rights groups have campaigned vigorously for increased pressure on Khartoum, which they and Western governments say is behind much of the killing, rape and displacement of black Dafuris." - CanWest news.] in. It doesn't relate to what I was saying

  • Xiaoqiao:

"religion is banned because unless it is Han chinese"? Pure rubbish, how about hmm... lets say... the only true banned (though not the only oppressed) religion in China...

    FALUN GONG?!
