@jonmulzer Chablis is a region in Burgundy where they mostly use the Chardonnay grape. They tend to use much less oak than other white Burgundy.

@jonmulzer I'm pretty sure American Oak is actually the same as using French, but when people began making American Oak barrels they had the Oak cut and not split, so it had a heavier flavor because the wood grains were cut, where as the French barrel makers split their wood and therefore lightened the Oak flavor by keep the wood grain intact.

I agree, this guys understanding & knowledge of wine is dangerous. Chablis and Chardonnay are precisely the same variety of grape.

Are you kidding me? Chardonnay and Chablis are completely different grapes and completely different wines. This guy knows next to nothing about making wine. And all wine barrels are toasted, they have to be. Whisky barrels just have a heavier toast. And American barrels are not "just as good" as French Oak. Amnerican oak has a much heavier flavor. If you want an equal to French oak for a cheaper price, buy Hungarian oak. I could go on forever. Do not listen to this guy!!!
