I think Al Sharpton's message did more of a disservice to the memory of Micheal Jackson than anything.

  • Did he just basically say we have Michael to thank for the end of segregation? You started the video out perfectly! I didn't see the memorial or anything so this is new to me. I'm so glad you spoke on it because celebrities did NOT pave the way. It's because of the people who came before them that they're able to even BE celebrities. *High five, mama*

  • I tried my best to leave it alone but there are normal folks that stood up so that there could be a Micheal Jackson. Celebrity is so bogus.

  • I don't think he was saying that, I think he was saying, that along with those people, Michael helped open up doors and break down racial barriers..... But on another note, like you said, we need to know our history, our history did not begin at slavery, how about some of our truly unsung heroes prior to slavery, such as Queen Amina, Queen Nzinga, Hanibal, Shaka Zulu & many other.

  • (cont.) people are SO transparent and idiotic it kills me at times.

Now don't get me wrong..I LOVE MJ's work and will ALWAYS love MJ's work til the day I die, but I'm not gonna sit up here and act like he made it possible for blacks to be in the entertainment world and that he opened up gates for me.

A lot of people are being fed this garbage by the media and it needs to stop. *side eyes Al*

I loved Mike, but these bandwagon mfs kill me.

  • @tssexychanel So it ended with King and Michael didn't break down any doors!?!

  • @mitchell4000 if u only see Al Sharpton for telling White America about themselves..then you're probably another Fool.. I didn't call a Dead man who put there life on the line for me.. A fool! He didn't Die on the Cross for me, nor is this a Racial battle, Just because R Kelly once made me feel good in his music, should I condone child molestation? WTH.. and another..White America is part of my heritage.. it's people like you, that makes me S**K.. if Al saved so many people why are you LOST! bb

  • I think it is a little deep for you to call Al Sharpton a fool. Far too often, he tells White America about itself, which many Black people are afraid to do. We lack respect for those who have put their life on the line to fight for equality. We think it comes with ease, but it does not.

  • I think you are forgetting and doing a little hating on your own. This was Michael's memorial service. We tend to forget the doors that Michael helped to kick open by his artistry. Michael helped Black music overcome the stigma that had been attached to it after DISCO. He busted open MTV, which REFUSED to play any Black artist. That is SIGNIFICANT. This was not a tribute to BlACK FOLKS. It was a memorial for the passing of Michael Jackson.

  • Good video..I'm not a fan of bro Al, I think he was trying to comfort the fam, but MJ being the reason Obama was elected..uhm no, that was a bit much. He was a great entertainer, it's tragic what happened, and now I'm ready for them to really allow him to rest in peace.

  • RIGHT ON THE MONEY, LUV.

  • I totally agree with what u r saying chanel, I dont think that he was in no way trying to undermind the struggles of our ancestors. But more that he was just giving mj his credit where it was deserved. But I can feel where u are coming from though, I think our generation of people are defintly ignorant to the TRUE heros and the REAL people that should reconized, for it was our ancestors, that really paved the way for the MJ's, and Beyonces. Not the newer generation!

  • Please MJ was no great dancer. He took dances and modified it some and gave it a new name like MS does with Windows...lol If spinning around, grabbing your raisins and walking backwards is dancing we need to rethink some things. mj was just a man that got lucky at selling his thriller album. If that album didn't sell like it did he wouldn't have called himself the king of pop, he would be just another guy selling some records.

  • My favorite is Summertime by Billie Holiday. I can listen to her all YEAR.. blessed b~
