Halim El-Dabh composed Sonic No. 7 and No.10 using a notation system that he created in order to indicate thousands of subtle variations in sound. The notation system indicates specific fingering, the position and shape of hands and fingers, methods of striking or silently touching the head and body of the drum, differing degrees of resonance, pitch bending, and more.

While notation of the piece is very specific, there is also room for improvisation within the work. This video shows one possible interpretation of the piece.

This video was recorded for Chinese Television. I was only able to obtain one camera feed. It is shaky at times and not always the perfect view, but it gets better as the video goes on.
