1984. I remember an ad with this guy in it for Camel. The ad might have been in Newsweek magazine and the mag was from 1984. Weird thing is I was thinking of that ad yesterday and saw this now.

What a badass.

@morrisonAV Often ads in compilations like that would represent other countries/markets than just the US.
-
@firebird890 They at least still got to do 'em outside the US anyway since they did have the rest of the world to exploit.

@FaganRoberts It was.

i am not a smoker, but i can say that is very good, and classic

obviously mid 80s, i can tell from the drum machines and synths! its a linndrum playground!
wow this has been driving me crazy for most of my life. I knew i had seen a camels cigarette commercial when i was a really little kid but every time I would talk about it with someone older than me they would just say it was impossible they didn't make after 1971. here it is the exact same one and my mystery is solved.

Perhaps I was mistaken. It was my understanding (from what I thought to be quite reliable sources) that television cigarette ads could no longer be aired in the USA after January 1, 1971. Am I simply in error or was there some exception to this law, perhaps regarding media such as closed circuit tv, purchased video, etc.?

I think you are absolutely right, Dr. I may have pulled this off of a "Worlds Greatest Ads" show I had in my collection. I'll change the description in my listing. Thanks for catching this.

Where would have this ad aired? Obviously not in the USA, or at least I wouldn't think so.

Yep, it aired on US TV before they quit running all cigarette ads. This one was from the early to mid-80s.
