A next generation Broadway musical that uses the vocabulary of hip-hop while sampling Othello and Brecht to spin an epic tale of struggle and redemption sure to entertain audience members from 15 to 50 to 150.
Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, creators of the 2007 audience favorite Clay, return triumphantly to the Douglas with Venice, an ambitious new musical with a highly original score that fuses hip-hop, R & B and even opera.
Set in the not-too-distant future, this tale of two brothers with conflicting ideas of how to lead a city caught in a terrorist war is a visionary new theatrical work filled with love, politics, treachery, tragedy and exhilarating music.
The choreography team for Venice includes John Carrafa who received Tony Award Nominations for Urinetown and Into the Woods and a 2007 Media Choreography Award for his work on The Polar Express and Tanisha Scott who's diverse resume includes everything from Alicia Keys' As I Am tour to the music video for Beyonce's Upgrade U to the feature film Notorious for 20th Century Fox.

I saw this show in its inaugural run at the Kansas City Rep, and it is an amazing piece. It is fantastic to see that it is being well received outside of the midwest. Congratulations!

I saw this musical yesterday in LA and really think that you've created something unique and wonderful. I'm always wary of performances billed as Shakespeare set in some other time, or a hip hop redo of some classic. It seems as if these are usually just upscale versions of Star Trek episodes where they visit the gangster planet. But this play transcends just being a derivative work with a hip hop gimmick. I hope you find some way to market this work that captures what makes it unique.

It's so nice to see how much the Broadway Musical has evolved. This clip for the show is fresh and leaves me with an exciting curiosity of what is to come. I like to keep myself current with what's going on in theater and if I'm correct, the guy that starts off the promo played Usnavi in Broadway's "In the Heights". He was incredible!. That's definitely a plus for "Venice".
