  • Do you have to be in 2nd gear for the DMV test? I failed the MSF test for not down shifting to first when stopping.

  • @supoaldb I don't believe you have to be in any specific gear for the VA test. Be sure to ask the test administrator any questions you have beforehand.

  • What speed is this test conducted at in Virginia?

Also, it's understandable that a front wheel skid if a no no , but what about a read wheel skid with the front controlled?

  • @HHOSportTrac Speed should be around 15mph. As for skidding, it is allowed. "When your front tire passes the second line, stop as fast as you safely can. You will not lose points if you skid."

See my Virginia-Motorcycle websites noted in the video

  • Thanks for the info. Have you heard of the VA uninsured motor vehicle fee? I don't know of any other states that do it. From what I can tell on the VA DMV website it applies to motorcycles as well as 4-wheeled vehicles. It doesn't explicitly say so though. I hope that's the case!

  • @dtmbcorp Yes, I think it is a $500/year fee or something. Generally cheaper to get motorcycle insurance. It runs $100-200/year, depending on the bike and rider.

  • @douglasturecek 15mph? Really? Wow I was practicing at between 25 & 30 mph with an 81 Honda 750 four. 15mph should be cake, especially on a CD350!

BTW Great videos. They really help.

    Thanks for the input

  • @cc22079 Yes, they do it in four steps.

  • Great information. It looks like you took the test at the alexandria dmv. Is the test the four parts you videod or is there more. Again thanks for the info.

  • @dtmbcorp Yes, any inspection station will do your motorcycle. They just check the major points (lights, horn, etc.) No heavy inspection of the brakes or anything like on a car.

  • The DMV right by my house has a test course that I might be able to practice on if I go early in the morning or evening. Lucky!

Thanks again for posting this info and the stuff on the website. Sorry for my idiot questions. One last thing: What is the safety inspection process like? I know that in some states you don't even get off the bike for the inspection. Will any auto shop that is licensed to do car inspections do motorcycle inspections?

    Thanks again :)
