  • My answer is this:

Be honest with yourself and with others.

You can never go wrong when you participate in truth.

  • ok.

  • "Greater wealth = greater efficiency"

Please explain. I don't know what you are basing this assertion on... if anything.

I think that people generally tend to be wasteful when they have a lot of something and tend to find ways to use a resource more efficiently when that resource is limited.

  • this is my own personal view. but it is obvious that fossil fuel economy, etc. will make resources go father. what i was hoping to contribute to the debate is that there is a wealth of innovation possible. people tend to dislike being to told to economize but i think it should be viewed as a growth area for industry.

  • we have the technology but it isn't being used because there is no profit in mass producing it now. Did you know that Algae are being used to test a bio-mechanical greenhouse scrubber system that will convert Co2 into harmless substances?

It's like reinventing the wheel. We need to stop producing the damn Co2 and preserve our forests so NATURE can do it's job. We don't need to reinvent the wheel. Greed is what is destroying us and the planet.

  • i do agree completely with you.

sustentability will only appear when it becomes rentable

  • fair enough. but materials that we would like to have unlimited supplies of are becoming increasingly finite. when there is money to be made, that's when the tide will turn. i think everyone wants to see an abundant future...asia and india want their share of the good life...so things will get very interesting indeed.

  • Well, the problem with eficiency and the us's culture (as oppossed to european culture) is that you do no have an efficient mind. if you invent a more efficient engine, you will probably just start building bigger cars, instead of more efficient cars, like an european would. i mean, you have done it a lot of times in the past.

of course that mentality has broght a lot of progress to the world (specially in computers) but is compulsively consuming....

    just my opinion

  • well i am not a scientist myself, so i hesitated to go into scientific detail...but many of the materials we depend on are hi tech composite materials. the area of materials research and nanotechnology are extremely interesting and i believe we may actually see recycling scenarios at the molecular level.

  • I also think advertising and packaging should be heavily taxed, as they are two of the most wasteful things in modern society.

Nice music too by the way!

  • I think the idea of emphasising recycling is a good one. I have often thought the best way to achieve this is to make every company responsible for the waste they produce. For example McDonalds could be fined for every one of their burger wrappers found in a storm water drain, so they would be forced to find a way to prevent their customers from littering such as refunds for returned packaging, reducing the amount of packaging they use or using only biodegradable packaging.
