Hi I'm Nolan McCann, and I'm 2010 Van Operator of the Year for Special Products. Hi, I'm Nolan and I'm a super star! I was born in the little town of Council Idaho. It's north of Boise Idaho. In my high school years I had a rule - never ride a motorcycle, never go in the army, and never become a truck driver. So what'd I do?
I had a buddy in high school, and his father was working for Global Van Lines and wanted an on-the-road helper, so I went on the road with him. And then I worked at a warehouse and finally got into a truck. My own truck, back in about 1989 I got into my own truck. This is about the fourth truck I've had since then. I've been driving for Mayflower since about 1991 when they were in Carmel Indiana.
One of my biggest hobbies is riding my Harley around and going and seeing different stuff that you wouldn't be able to see in a truck. I've been to a lot of different places: The Black Hills, Hoover Dam, Zion Park, Rice Canyon, and Arches National Monument. Louisiana is pretty favorable because of the food. I like hot, spicy food, and that's the thing. My wife loves hot, spicy food. She's got a Tobasco bottle in her hand all the time.
This is a 2006 Touring model. It's a custom color for 2006. There was 181 of them in that color so it's pretty rare. A lot of people call it my little girl's bike. Why do I think I won? I guess I've been at it so long and so many years trying to do good. Finally somebody thought about me. "Hey look at this guy! He's doing pretty good!" You know, I've been working for the van lines a long time, and you know I'm always thinking "man, what did they do wrong this year that I can't get that?" And stuff like that, and then out of the blue, you know... what a surprise! There's a lot of people at the van lines that have known me for years and stuff, they was happy that I got it too. My success is hard work, and doing your job right, and making people happy.
