It's amazing how Valanice can carry a lit firecracker in her pocket and her dress doesn't even catch on fire.
-
I love the music in Etheria.

so if you have the original disc, is there an (easy) way to evade the firecracker bug?

What a cute doggy!

etheria looks like heaven

I had a glitch in the original game where Tsepish and Elspeth would stand there right where he was swinging here around...and nothing would move. You had to skip ahead to get anywhere. XD

I found a real easy way to solve the problem, without a patch. You have to make a lot of clicks with your mouse, very quickly/ransomly. Thats worked for me. I bought the game bc it was in a package of all the King's Quests games.

can you help me? I can not cancel the fireworks, I always explode immediately
-
i keep blowing up HELP!
-
That's strange how you could carry it without blowing up. I blew up

HAAAAhaha.
ever since playing this game when i was seven, whenever i try to open a locked door i say "IT'S LOCKED" the same way valanice says it. nobody gets it.
This. Blows. When I was younger I used to have this game, and have since upgraded to the XP version. The XP version has this awesome glitch where the dynamite blows up the instant you pick it up. You have to take baby steps after each death sequence in order to successfully complete it. I finally just muted the speakers in order to not lose my mind. : ( You must have the older version.
Thanks for sharing, regardless of my bitterness. 5 stars.

That's the infamous "firecracker bug". I know how to get around it (obviously), but only if you have the original CD. I don't know how to do it with the KQ Collection.
But you can't keep your old saved games after you fix it.

I have the King's Quest collection. You just have to walk a few steps during the 5 seconds before you blow up. After dying a million times, you'll eventually make it. I don't think they ever released a patch.

Since you're not using an emulator, the time it takes to blow up depends on the speed of your computer. Some computers don't allow any time to move.
Besides, the version in the Collection doesn't have as many features as the DOS version, such as adjustable walking speed, and the saved games system is somewhat improved.

Ok, today I loaded the KQ's collection on my newer desktop with Vista, and it gives you absolutely no time, like you said. Here's what I tried. When the computer is loading, go into the BIOS settings and find "Core Multiplex Technology" and change it to "disabled". This will allow use of only one core. I was able to make it into the next screen after that, but it still took a while. About as long as when I had my old computer.

That's good that you can rig it. I would still recommend Googling "king's quest updates" and on the first link, find a way via patches to get version 2.00b. Then follow their instructions to get it running in DOSBox. That not only allows you to get past the firecracker scene easily, but you get adjustable walking speed, the new save system, the colored mouse you see in the videos, optional full screen, and less instability.
