Spearfishing Black Marlin

Spearfishing in the sea of cortez. Watch the landing of a monster black marlin and as we drift bluewater for pelagics.

*The fish was divided amongst many different families in a small mexican village and nothing went to waste. We also had a big marlin cookout the next day cooked a variety of local ways. Black marlin = delicious!

The REAL ENEMY is the giant long lines and gill nets raping the sea of cortez. For those of you with the audacity to make rude commends on this taking of a SINGLE fish, I suggest you read up on the SHARKNORMA bill and the politics of Mexican Fisheries.

Again, for every 10 marlin released, 25-30% die. If you TRULY believe you are above spearfishers for catching and "releasing" marlin than you are just a hypocrite who wont take into account the reality of your own methods.

For every ONE marlin taken by spearfishing, hundreds are dying from rod and reel fishing and commercial fishing.

I see it all the time. tho, I would say more 30 to 35% fatality rate. 1 hour fight on a swallowed hook... or so exhausted that they cant defend from sharks

It is the most selective form of fishing.. there are no accidental "hookings" of a species that you do not wan't, or accidentally catching something over or undersized. A person hunting their own food is absolutely the best thing naturalistically. There are very few serious spearos in the world.. it takes dedication and training. We put ourselves into the animals habitat and HOLD OUR BREATH!! Most of us true sportsman FROWN on using tanks.
